Gap Year South Africa offers 3 week, 5 week, 3 month and 5 month project options in Cape Town, South Africa. Our volunteer projects include Community Development, Hillsong Africa Foundation, Ultimate Ocean Adventure and Surfing Projects. Please note the Ultimate Ocean Adventure Project is only offered as a 5 week, 3 month or 5 month projects due to the length of time required to complete the specialised activities involved in this specific project.
Volunteer with Gap Year South Africa assisting the local township community of Masiphumelele in Cape Town, South Africa. Our Community Development project is primarily targeted at assisting under-resourced individuals through community development programmes such as: School Support, Student Tutoring and Mentoring, Edu-care Support, Women's Club, HIV Prevention, Performing Arts and Sports Coaching programmes. We design a personalised volunteer schedule for individual’s based on their particular area of interest and expertise. Volunteers will have an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution through supporting a number of community development activities.
Hillsong Africa Foundation
Volunteer with Gap Year South Africa and make a meaningful contribution to the Hillsong Africa Foundation Community Care Projects. Volunteers will assist in serving the many Hillsong Community Care Projects as well as providing support to a local township community of Masiphumelele in Cape Town, South Africa. Volunteers will be connected and fully wired into Hillsong Cape Town’s Powerhouse Youth, church life, connect groups, and Sunday services.
Ultimate Ocean Adventure
Spend your Gap Year with Gap Year South Africa on the Ultimate Ocean Adventure. The Ultimate Ocean Adventure project combines scuba diving and surfing as well as providing you with an opportunity for community volunteering within a local township community. Learn how to scuba dive by completing the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Open Water Dive Certification as well as diving on a weekly basis under the expert guidance of qualified marine biologist and world acclaimed ocean adventurer Steve Benjamin. Also learn to surf or improve your surfing under the expert guidance of six times South African Surfing Champion Roxy Davis.
Spend your Gap Year learning to surf or improving your surfing with Gap Year South Africa under the expert guidance of six times South African Surfing Champion Roxy Davis. You will also have an opportunity immerse yourself in the surfing lifestyle and learn how to be a surf coach and assist coaching programmes at the Roxy and Quiksilver surf schools. An important part of the surfing project involves volunteering within our local township community assisting under-resourced school children through programmes such as: waves for change, teaching support, tutoring and mentorship, computer literacy, HIV prevention, sports coaching, performing arts, and/or environmental awareness in Cape Town, South Africa.
Spend your Gap Year with Gap Year South Africa in the delivery of our partner school`s physical education programme that includes speed, agility and quickness training (SAQ). Spend your afternoons coaching specific sports such as soccer, rugby, cricket, rugby, netball and basketball to enthusiastic school children in a local township community in Cape Town, South Africa.
The physical education programme also encourages and contributes to instilling positive values such as commitment, respect, discipline and team work. And it also provides a platform for social exchange, conflict resolution, increased self confidence & self esteem in the children on the programme.
